STILL – Oog op 2021

“Eye on 2021”

About this project

2021 was entirely marked by Corona. Photographer Rick Akkerman portrayed fifteen people during the mask mandate. he just photographed people on the street and asked them to reflect on the year. A year of working from home, lockdowns, a curfew, and masks. How did these people experience it?

Corona, the topic of the day, has already been discussed extensively. Uncertainty, tension, fear, loneliness, debate, death, but also relaxation and security, all played a role. Our adaptability was severely tested.

During the mask mandate, the streetscape changed completely, but it also gave us a way to show our identity once again. What kind of mask did you have, and how did the mask mandate affect you?

A quote of the girl in the first portrait;

I learned to speak with my eyes.
