“Reality with a twist”

About this project

For a year, I took a weekly photo for the newspaper Alkmaarsche Courant/NHD that needed to be more than just journalistic.

Artistic, journalistic, and technical photography combined. A series meant for observers to look at longer, to discover something, and to see reality from a different perspective. Reality with a twist. Every week, a photo that speaks for itself but tells the story differently than the bare reality appears to be.

The closhing exhibition

This was Rick Akkerman’s first real exhibition. A solo exhibition at the renowned Kranenburgh Museum in Bergen (NH). The opening was very successful and attracted nearly 300 visitors. The photos were printed on various materials, such as photo wallpaper and sublimation prints on aluminum. The exhibition concluded with an auction of the photos, raising € 1,650 for the Red Cross.
