About this project

“Passion” is a series that Akkerman created for a weekly column in the NHD/Alkmaarsche Courant newspaper. Between 2016 and 2017 he portrayed 30 people.

Each week, he portrayed young people with a more or less obsessive love for something that takes precedence over almost everything else and dominates their personal lives. Examples include sports, dance, music, yoga, skateboarding, BMX, gaming, theater, or cars. Each week, he tried to find a different angle and a beautiful setting. The photos were printed large in the newspaper with a short accompanying interview. The exposure did not extend beyond just the newspaper.
